Back on track (literally)

Post from “OnAMission”

OMG!!! I skipped spin class last night to enjoy the beautiful weather. For the last couple of weeks, my running partner has been hinting that is time for me to get back out there. Well, yesterday was the day. The sun was shining, and it was the perfect temperature, but, of course, I was scared. I was afraid of not making it to the end, and I was afraid of the aches and pains and possibly breaking something again.

But then Cyndi said something yesterday that stuck with me–something like, “Say it; believe it; do it.” I probably got that wrong. but it said to me that I had to believe that I could run.

My partner and I met in Lexington Center, and my goal was to do two miles. A half a mile in, the first hill hit, but I was too busy talking to feel it. Then a mile in, the next hill. I felt that one, but my workout partner just said, “Run up it, not into it.” Before I knew it, it was over.

Then the last hill came… It’s a big one but I just kept telling myself, “You made it this far, and think about how great you will feel at the top.” It was beautiful. I coasted down the hill and made the two-mile mark and kept running. I finally stopped at 2.6 miles and only because I’d made it back to the car and didn’t want to push myself the first day out. I was overjoyed… I drove home with a huge smile belting out lyrics to every song on the radio. This morning I am still smiling!! Taking a break today from running, but I will be back out there tomorrow. I am sooo happy!

  1. I’m going to miss the Biggest Loser effort and especially the support of my coach - Cyndi and the entire team! The discipline, accountability and coaching has made all the difference! This is the first time in over 20 years that I’ve lost weight without dieting! Over 15 pounds lost without dieting and without feeling deprived or hungry! Wow! I know I will remain committed - to myself to make sure I care enough about myself to take time to exercise and incorporate balance into my diet - What we all know but for some reason choose not to do? That is, eat three meals and at least one snack; avoid high fat and processed and high sugar foods; watch portion size; incorporate lots of whole grains and vegetables and fruits; drink water! Thanks to MIT Medical and the Get Fit Coaches - you’re the best!
