Hi everyone!  My name is Dana and I'm a sophomore at MIT studying Comparative Media Studies and Computer Science - but that's not the interesting part.  The interesting part is that for the rest of the challenge, I'll be trying out and blogging about the CrossFit experience.
But first, I should probably say a little more about myself:
Through freshman year of college, exercise was not my friend. This wasn't really a problem for me - my weight fluctuated, but generally stayed within the healthy range - until I got to MIT and put on thirty pounds my freshman year.  What was worse than not liking what I saw in the mirror was how I felt: sluggish, unmotivated, and a bit hopeless.  Admittedly, weight gain wasn't the only thing keeping me down, but it was definitely a contributor to my poor morale.
This summer, I decided to turn things around and get in shape.  Through healthy eating and consistent exercise (mostly moderate cardio, with some lifting), I lost twenty-five pounds.  In September, I even completed my first 5k, the Beaver Dash, here at MIT.  I feel great, and I'm proud of what I've done so far, but I don't want to stop here!  I'm excited to try CrossFit so I can condition my body in new ways.
Anyway, tune in for more exciting updates once I start going to CrossFit classes later this week.  Here's to hoping that it'll be challenging and even a little bit fun.
