2008 Prizes
Part of what makes getfit@mit so much fun is the opportunity to win prizes every week, as well as at the end of the challenge. This year, we’re giving away more prizes than ever!
Individual prizes
- Weekly drawings: Eligible participants who meet the exercise goals for a given week will be entered into a prize drawing that week. At least two individual prizes will be awarded each week.
- Special competitions: During the challenge, special individual competitions (see below) will allow individuals to win additional prizes during some weeks.
- End-of-challenge awards: At the end of the challenge, two individuals will win “Onward & Upward” prizes for recording exercise minutes during every week of the challenge and demonstrating a steady and consistent increase in exercise minutes from week to week, even if weekly exercise goals have not been met.
Team prizes
- Weekly drawings: Each week, one team prize will be awarded by random drawing among all eligible teams whose weekly average meets or exceeds the exercise goal for that week.
- Special competitions: Some weeks (see below), additional team prizes will be awarded to the winners of special competitions.
- Grand prize: At the end of the challenge, one team, drawn at random from among all eligible teams whose weekly exercise average meets or exceeds the exercise goal for 10 out of 12 weeks, will win the getfit@mit 2008 grand prize.
Special individual competitions
- Design a tee-shirt; win an iPod. Submit your design for the official 2008 getfit@mit tee-shirt, and your work could be displayed on the chests of thousands of sweaty people. Plus, you could win an iPod nano.
- Week Six haiku challenge. By Week Six, we’re almost over the hump, but half the challenge—and increasing weekly exercise goals remain. Nothing inspires like poetry, so we figured a mid-point haiku contest made sense. As one might say in 17 syllables: After exercise, cool down by writing haiku, your words could win big.
- More individual competitions may be announced during the course of the challenge; watch website and weekly updates for details.
Special team competitions
- Best Team Name: Week 1 (Jan. 28–Feb. 3). Getfit participants choose the winner by going to the website to vote.

- Grand prize: At the end of the challenge, one team will be selected at random from among all eligible teams whose weekly exercise average meets or exceeds the exercise goal for 10 out of 12 weeks. The grand prize winners will be announced at the closing event on April 26, 2007.
- “Onward & Upward” prizes: At the end of the challenge, two special prizes will be awarded by random drawing among all participants who have recorded minutes during every week of the challenge and have demonstrated a steady and consistent increase in exercise minutes from week to week. A participant need not have met weekly exercise thresholds to be eligible for this drawing. For more detailed information on weekly exercise goals and prize eligibility, see complete rules and FAQs. We are grateful to our prize donors for their generous support of getfit@mit.
